I would find it very odd if somebody poked their head in a waiting room and said either expression without a « I’ll just be a few more minutes » or such. In fact, I’d find it odd if the wait was over, too, unless they added « Now how can I help you ». So I believe either requires more information. I guess the follow up could be replaced by gesture or expression which indicated if the wait was over or not. Well, you’ve kept me waiting for an additional syllable with for keeping.
